Microsoft’s “eTree” project will end in 2025

You may have heard of Alipay’s Ant Forest tree planting program, but did you know that Microsoft has launched a similar environmental protection program? The program is called “E-tree” (E-tree). However, the program has now announced that it will stop operating. Microsoft recently announced that the “E-tree” environmental protection project will be officially discontinued on July 4, 2025. At that time, all unfinished virtual tree growth progress will not be able to be retained. The program originally allowed users to complete specific tasks in the Microsoft Edge browser, MSN weather, and Microsoft wallet to obtain “energy value” to cultivate a virtual tree. When the energy value of this virtual tree reaches 10,000 points, Microsoft will plant a real tree in Mozambique on behalf of the user, and partner in the Eden reforestation project. Microsoft said that this decision was based on the results of regular evaluations. Due to the low level of user participation, the company decided to terminate the project. In the meantime, Microsoft encourages users to continue supporting environmental protection or other public causes in other ways, such as using the points earned by Microsoft Rewards to make charitable donations.
