Microsoft recently released a message about the change in the update channel of Microsoft 365 apps in the admin center dashboard of Microsoft 365, which was marked as a “major change”.
Currently, Microsoft releases M365 app updates in four ways: Current Channel, Monthly Enterprise Channel, Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel (Preview), and Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel.

Administrators can choose the appropriate update channel based on their organization’s needs for the frequency and timeliness of updates.
However, starting in July 2025, Microsoft will retire the Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel (Preview) and reduce the update support time for the Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel from 14 months to 8 months.
At the same time, Microsoft has extended the rollback support period for the monthly Enterprise Channel from 1 month to 2 months, and the changes are detailed in the Microsoft support documentation:
Monthly Enterprise Channel: The rollback support period has been extended from 1 month to 2 months.
Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel (Preview): Will be retired and is recommended to migrate now.
Semi-annual Enterprise Channel: The update support time has been shortened from 14 months to 8 months, with a primary focus on unattended devices.
Microsoft explained that starting in July 2025, the semi-annual Enterprise Channel will focus primarily on unattended devices, and it is recommended to migrate interactive devices to the monthly Enterprise Channel or the current channel. (更多…)
