Google recently announced a comprehensive upgrade to the editor of its photo management app, Google Photos, adding a number of AI features and optimizing the user interface, aiming to provide users with a smarter and more convenient photo editing experience.
The core highlight of this update is the introduction of two AI tools, “Reframe” and “Auto Framing”, which were previously limited to Pixel devices. With the help of generative artificial intelligence, the “Reshape” feature allows users to intelligently transform objects and backgrounds in photos through text prompts. For example, users can simply type in a description such as “clear blue sky” and the system will automatically replace the overcast sky in the photo with the specified scene. The “Auto Framing” function analyzes the composition of the picture through AI algorithms, actively suggests that users use different cropping and widening methods to optimize the composition, and can also use generative AI technology to automatically fill in the blank areas caused by cropping, further improving the integrity of the picture.
The new version of the editor also integrates and optimizes the operation logic, centralizes all editing tools into a unified interface, and introduces an “AI Enhanced” option that allows users to quickly recall AI-driven editing effects such as image sharpening and object removal. In addition, when users click on a specific area of the photo, the system will intelligently recommend appropriate editing tools based on the image content, such as adjusting the light and blurring the background, lowering the threshold for professional editing.
Google said the redesigned editor will be rolled out on Android devices worldwide starting next month, while iOS users will have to wait until later this year. At the same time, the company also launched a photo album QR code sharing function, which allows users to easily share albums with others by generating QR codes, and can also print exclusive QR codes for group activities, allowing users with QR codes to view albums and upload photos, further strengthening the social nature of the app.
