On the eve of Earth Day on April 17th, Apple announced significant progress towards its 2030 environmental goals: the company’s global greenhouse gas emissions have decreased by over 60% compared to the 2015 baseline. The company has achieved multiple environmental milestones simultaneously: using 99% recycled rare earth elements in all magnets and 99% recycled cobalt materials in all Apple designed batteries.
Apple’s 2030 strategy aims to prioritize achieving a 75% reduction in emissions compared to 2015, and then balance the remaining emissions through high-quality carbon offset projects. Last year, through comprehensive measures such as shifting the supply chain towards renewable electricity and increasing the proportion of recycled materials in products, Apple successfully avoided approximately 41 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions.
Apple stated that from now until May 16th, users can go to the store to recycle their devices and enjoy special discounts. (Zhou Ling, reporter from The Paper)
