On June 8, Microsoft released the Beta 138 version of the Edge browser, which brings many new features and improvements.
First of all, the Edge browser has a new Media Control Center feature. The feature allows users to control multiple media sources from any website in a single interface. The Media Control Center button appears on the toolbar (as an icon with a musical note) that allows users to launch picture-in-picture mode, cast media to other devices, control music or video playback, and more.
Secondly, the History section of the Edge browser has been upgraded with artificial intelligence. Now, the feature leverages artificial intelligence technology to help users find relevant websites in their history. Instead of remembering the exact name of the website or a word in the name of the page, users can find what they need by using synonyms, phrases, or misspelled words. Microsoft says the feature uses a local device model, which is trained on user data and doesn’t send any information to Microsoft. The AI-powered history search feature is gradually rolling out to Edge Beta internal beta test users.
Another notable change is the dynamic settings menu. If your browser slows down, the Performance & Extension Detector pops up a notification in the settings menu to help you understand the built-in performance boosts. Similar to the AI-powered history search feature, this feature is also being rolled out gradually.
In addition, IT Home noted that other updates to the 138 beta version of Edge Browser include: Edge Browser can now default to the user’s primary work profile when opening external links, instead of the last one used (the feature is being rolled out gradually); A new toggle option has been added to AutoFill that allows users to consent to the Edge browser collecting web form field labels to improve the accuracy of suggestions. It should be noted that this feature does not send data entered by the user, only field labels; Business users can now view sensitivity labels in MIP-protected PDF files; The Microsoft 365 Copilot chat summary feature is now available in the context menu (rolling out gradually).
Currently, the Edge browser beta version 138 is available for download and can be obtained on the official Edge Insider website. Version 138 is expected to be available in the Stable Channel during the week of June 26, 2025.
